Cognitive Assessment Services

The clinic provides cognitive and academic assessments for adults and children with concerns about learning.

The Clinic also provides basic cognitive assessment, where understanding more about an individual’s cognitive or academic functioning could assist in diagnosis, treatment planning, and/or educational or vocational goal setting.

The Clinic can offer a core cognitive and academic assessment to adults and children aged 6 and older. We can also offer cognitive assessment if it occurs in the context of concerns about specific learning difficulties, intellectual difficulties, or part of a larger medical assessment or ongoing treatment service. For example, when a larger assessment process needs additional, more detailed cognitive assessment, referrers may request an investigation of cognitive functioning for consideration of Intellectual Disability, Language Disorder, Learning Disorder, or other Neurodevelopmental Disorders (e.g., ADHD, Autism). That is, the Clinic can provide the cognitive assessment component of that broader assessment.

For a reliable cognitive assessment that reflects the person’s true cognitive potential, the person will need to be medically well and stable, with no acute illness or injury that may impact on their ability to engage in assessment or yield valid results (e.g., infection, major depression).

Please note, we do not conduct assessments for ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or giftedness.
