General Practice and Community

The General Practice Community Clinical Placements offer ANU medical students hands-on experience in diverse community settings. Students work with experienced GPs, gaining practical skills and understanding community healthcare.

Medical students will receive quality training experiences in general practice, crucial to their journey to becoming a doctor. Australians see their general practitioner (GP) more than any other health professional, with nine out of ten people seeing their GP at least once a year. This puts GPs at the centre of the healthcare system.

ANU medical students undertake a 6-week urban GP placement in Canberra and Queanbeyan. They gain diverse clinical experience, seeing patients of all ages and conditions, and learn from GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals.
