About
The project examines the origins and impact of social identity, self-concept and sense of belonging, with a particular focus on the implications for equity and access in Higher Education. Individual studies focus on:
- The experiences of identity, belonging and connection for students from lower social class backgrounds, ethnically minoritised students, and students from "non-traditional" backgrounds;
- Delineating the collection of relevant identities in a university setting (me as student, me as a member of my cultural group, me as someone in a particular degree or discipline, me as a student at this university) and their differentiated impacts on outcomes like learning, academic achievement, continuation of studies, wellbeing and career outcomes.
- The impact of identity and self-perception on aversion to participation, particularly in the context of performance and music
- The role of interventions, including orientation and transition programs, on shaping these identity-related experiences at university.
