About

Drug checking is a health intervention to reduce the harms of drug use. Globally, very few independent research programs are built into drug checking services and this transdisciplinary collaboration has produced novel research about the behaviours of people who use drugs, drug checking effectiveness and drug market trends.

The group has established a novel follow-up study of drug checking service patrons in order to produce new evidence of the effectiveness of drug checking as a harm reduction intervention. Because of this work the ACT is considered a leader in innovative drug harm reduction approaches and its success has “opened the door” for other Australian jurisdictions.
