Dr Pietro Di Ciaccio is a clinical and laboratory haematologist, specialising in all varieties of malignant, non-malignant and obstetric haematology. He has a particular expertise in lymphoma.
Dr Di Ciaccio completed specialist haematology training at Liverpool and Westmead Hospitals, before undertaking a postgraduate fellowship in lymphoma at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, where he developed expertise in the use of cellular therapies in lymphoma, clinical trials and clinical quality improvement.
Dr Di Ciaccio has a strong interest in research and is an active member of the Lymphoma and Transplantation/Cell Therapies working parties of the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group. He is a member of a number of professional organisations, including the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Australasian Lymphoma Alliance, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
The chief focus of Dr Di Ciaccio’s research has been in the area of high-grade lymphomas, including:
- Lymphoma in immunosuppressed patients
- The care of lymphoma diagnosed in women who are pregnant
- The optimal care of haematology patients in the context of the COVID19 pandemic

Research interests
The chief focus of Dr Di Ciaccio’s research has been in the area of high-grade lymphomas. He has conducted a number of multicentre and multinational studies into the clinical outcomes and management of these conditions, including the utilisation of bone marrow transplantation in lymphoma. Dr Di Ciaccio is also coordinating research specifically regarding the care of lymphoma diagnosed in women who are pregnant. He was the lead author of a recent national Australasian specialist consensus statement on the optimal management of patients with lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and myeloma during the coronavirus pandemic. Dr Di Ciaccio maintains expertise and interest in clinical trials, as well as the use of cellular therapies and novel bispecific agents.
