Presentation 1: "Can you spot the AI imposters?"
Presenter: Dr Amy Dawel
Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionising our society in ways we have never seen before. AI algorithms such as ChatGPT and DALL-E are capable of quickly and inexpensively generating text, artwork, and faces that are incredibly realistic. As such, people are worried that AI could manipulate our understanding of what's real. In the ANU Emotions and Faces Lab, we've been investigating why AI-generated faces often seem more human than the faces of real people. We have discovered that racial biases in algorithm training play a significant role in this phenomenon. Come along to find out if you can spot the AI imposters!
Presentation 2: “Showcasing an online global health teaching pedagogy for peer to peer engagement in real-time.”
Presenter: Dr Danish Ahmad trained in clinical medicine from the University of Delhi and public health from the University of Oxford and the University of Canberra. Danish's focus is in improving the design, delivery and evaluation of health systems to improve population health and wellbeing. Danish is a global health researcher and population health lecturer at here in SMP. As an educator, he’s passionate about supporting public health competency development and exploring teaching research to enhance learning and peer to peer international engagement. Abstract: An increasing focus accompanies Public Health’s (PH) global rise on training the new generation of PH graduates in interdisciplinary skills for multisectoral and cross-cultural. Online teaching modalities provide an opportunity to enhance global health skill development through virtual engagement and peer exchange. However, current teaching pedagogy is limited in providing innovative modes of learning global health issues outside traditional classroom settings with limited modalities of evidence-informed implementation models. This seminar discusses learning and implementation insights from I-PELICAN, a series of virtual practise-based modules developed by ANU-SMP and UC with an Indian university in 2022. I-PELICAN encouraged international peer-to-peer exchange in real-time by incorporating virtual practice-based elements and was developed as a ‘proof of concept’. The initiative demonstrated the feasibility of a virtual practice-based module to supplement classroom teaching. This low-cost, sustainable approach promotes flexible and multidisciplinary adoption by different courses, allowing for real-time student exchange and learning.
