On behalf of the Organising Committee, we would like to invite you to attend the Australian & New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE) 2019 Conference, which will be held in Canberra, ACT from Monday 1 July to Thursday 4 July, 2019. The theme of the meeting is blue sky thinking, Capitalise Your Ideas.

Invited speakers include:

Dr. Renée E. Stalmeijer, PhD
Assistant Professor Department for Educational Development & Research FHML, Maastricht University, The Netherlands

Renée E. Stalmeijer is trained as an educational scientist and holds a PhD in medical education obtained from Maastricht University. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Development and Research at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), Maastricht University. She is the head of task force programme evaluation at FHML. Her research, educational development and consultancy focus on workplace learning and workplace supervision both in the undergraduate and the post-graduate curriculum. She co-supervises several PhD projects both nationally and internationally. She teaches research methodology within the Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE), the School of Health Professions Education (SHE) PhD Writing course, and during the short course Critical Choices in Qualitative Research Methodology. During 2013 - 2017 she was the director of the Master of Health Professions Education of the SHE Graduate School. She is Associate Editor for Perspectives on Medical Education, BEME Board member and affiliated scholar to the Wilson Centre at the University of Toronto and visiting fellow to Western Sydney University.

Dr Bernie Bissett
University Canberra

Dr Bernie Bissett is a physiotherapist and Clinical Assistant Professor at University Canberra has an interest in respiratory muscle training in ventilated patients. In 2016 Bernie was awarded the UC Faculty of Health Research Impact Prize, and was nominated for the ACT Scientist of the Year Award. Her passions are improving patient care around the world and education.

Professor Felicity Blackstock
School of Science and Health, Western Sydney University.

Professor Felicity Blackstock is the Director, Learning & Teaching and DAP Physiotherapy at Western Sydney University. She was awarded an Australian OLT citation in 2015 for pioneering simulation education design in physiotherapy. Felicity’s research interests are innovation in tertiary education to improve student learning experience, motivational interviewing and patient education for behaviour change in chronic disease, and physiotherapy management of cardiorespiratory dysfunction.

Professor Diana Slade
Director of the Institute for Communication in Health Care, ANU

Professor Diana Slade is the Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Australian National University and the Director of the ANU Institute for Communication in Health Care. She is an academic researcher and educator in health communication, linguistics, description of spoken English, organisational communication and translational research design.

A/Professor Alexandra Webb
ANU College of Science and Medicine

A/Professor Alexandra Webb is a chiropractor and anatomist, and has been awarded the title of Distinguished Educator at the ANU in 2019. She is committed to enhancing medical education through the creation of effective dynamic teaching and learning environments that exploit the affordances of technologies. In her current role, she is leading the development and implementation of technology enhanced learning and teaching for the Medical School as well as creating a flexible collaborative Professional Development program to build capacity in teaching and learning.

A/Professor Jane Frost
University of Canberra

A/Professor Jane Frost is the first in Australia to obtain a Professional Doctorate in Nurse Practitioner. Her research aligns the theme of health and wellbeing through the lifespan. Enablement is a concept that is examines how people cope, manage and understand after a consultation. She loves teaching and is passionate about using simulation to make nursing education relevant and enjoyable.
