Integrating Medicine and Psychology
Our experience through life is defined by the capabilities and potential of our mind and body. Appreciating the interdependence and inter-relationship of both is essential to understanding and improving human health.
That is why ANU is leading the way as the first University in Australia - and one of the first in the world - to integrate the schools of Medicine and Psychology. We are dissolving the artificial boundaries between these disciplines and focusing on leading the development of new knowledge and health solutions through interdisciplinary research, education and practice.

Our interdisciplinary approach integrates medicine and psychology to advance human health, enhancing lives and communities. We prioritise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, conduct transformative research and develop innovative healthcare leaders.
The School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP) was formed in January 2023 through the amalgamation of the former ANU Medical School and the ANU Research School of Psychology.
We conduct teaching and research at multiple sites throughout the ACT, the south east region of NSW and in remote Northern Territory.
The ANU School of Medicine and Psychology’s executive team leads initiatives to enhance health systems, community, and individual health through educational programs, clinical services, and research. We aim to create a supportive environment where staff and students thrive.
Our School prioritises a respectful, safe, and productive environment with positive values and wellbeing practices. We emphasize respect, trust, and integrity. Through committees and student reps, we support and train future health professionals, promoting social change and innovation.
