About

About this scholarship

The School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP) in the ANU College of Science and Medicine is offering a one-off PhD scholarship to support a research program contributing directly to the ARC Discovery Project “The moral circle: Identifying the competing social and psychological forces that shape moral inclusion”.

This fully funded project investigates how compassion, vulnerability, group processes, and social norms shape who we include or exclude from our moral concern, and how these dynamics influence societal responses to pressing issues such as inequality, social cohesion, intergroup relations, and public support for social change.

Purpose of the Award

The Award supports an outstanding domestic candidate to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy, based in the School of Medicine and Psychology. The PhD will focus on developing new empirical insights into the drivers and barriers of moral inclusion in Australia.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Charlie Crimston (Australian National University) and Prof Jolanda Jetten (University of Queensland).

The PhD project can be tailored to the candidate’s expertise and interests within the broader aims of the Discovery Project, with opportunities to work across experimental, longitudinal, and intervention methodologies.

Field of Study

Social Psychology – undertaking research on the social and psychological forces that shape moral inclusion.

  1. is enrolling full-time in a program of study for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy PSYC9723, based in the School of Medicine and Psychology; and
