About
The Canberra Hospital is the main trauma centre for Canberra and the surrounding area seeing over 5000 patients per year. This provide an opportunity to better understand a wide range of trauma Therefore, many clinical studies are being undertaken to assess the outcomes of trauma management.
In conjunction with consulting Orthopaedic Surgeons Dr M. Saqib Zafar, and the Canberra Hospital Trauma Fellow, TORU Staff have developed a database to integrate into Standard of Care at Canberra Hospital to track fractures in the ACT.
We are currently seeking students who may wish to apply to contribute to this broader project. They may have a systems background and/or be interested in systems integration in a Health Care setting.
In time, it is envisioned that ACTOR will facilitate a vast expanse of research, looking at trends in fracture patterns and optimising standards of care for trauma and orthopaedics for a range of fractures in the ACT.
Some projects we are currently running are:
- Patient satisfaction, function and complications following fracture fixations
- Comparative outcomes following upper and lower limb fracture fixation.
- Assessment of Periprosthetic Hip Fractures
- Outcomes in patients with syndesmosis screw fixation
- Pelvic discontinuity
- Pelvic fracture classification and outcomes
