About

I am social-health psychologist who is interested in studying humility. For example, I study clinician humility and examine patient health outcomes related to having a humble clinician. I am also interested in humility development; for example, what psychological factors (e.g., self-compassion, impermance, gratitude) underpin humility and how can they be leveraged to cultivate humility? Additionally, I am interested in student success, particularly for minority students. I also teach a variety of courses including statistics, research methods, social, sports, health, and positive psychology.

I started working at ANU in January of 2024. Prior to that, I worked as a tenured associate professor of psychology at Texas A&M University - San Antonio. Prior to working at A&M-SA, I was an assistant professor at Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern University). I received my PhD in Social/Health psychology from the University of California, Riverside where I worked with the excellent and wonderful Kate Sweeny. Prior to that, I earned my bachelor's of science in psychology from the University of Arizona in Tucson, where I worked with two wonderful folks, Stephanie Fryberg and Jeff Stone.

Besides my own work, I really enjoy teaching and mentoring students through the research process. As you'll see, a good portion of my publications have student co-authors. I take great pride in that!

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family (my wife Amanda and our two kids) and playing/coaching volleyball.

***I am currently recruiting PhD (HDR) students to join my research team. Please feel free to reach out if you are interested.
