Looking at Bodies, Sex and Gender in the Health and Medical Humanities
Aimed at bringing together researchers and scholars from across the Australian National University (ANU) and from around Australia, the Looking at Bodies, Sex and Gender in the Health and Medical Humanities symposium was centred around the intersections of sex and gender with medicine and health education in humanities, history, social sciences and creative arts research.
Hosted by the ANU Health Humanities Network, and led by Dr Lillian Smyth (ANU School of Medicine and Psychology) and Dr Bonnie McConnell (ANU School of Music), an expert panel of academics discussed new directions and communities of practice in health humanities education. Panellists included Professor Christine Phillips (ANU SMP), Professor Sandra Carr (UWA) and Dr Chris Browne (ANU).
The panellists explored the value and purpose of the health humanities and a transdisciplinary approach in health professional education, as well as practical approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in this space.
The discussion was presented as part of the ANU Strategic Learning and Teaching Grant “Developing Transdisciplinary Health Humanities at ANU” in which SMP researchers Associate Professor Anna Olsen, Associate Professor Krisztina Valter, Associate Professir Alexandra Webb, Dr Brett Scholz, Dr Kristen Murray and Dr Riemke Aggio-Bruce were also involved.
