Become a volunteer (test)
A practical way to make a valuable contribution to the training of our future medical practitioners is to become a volunteer patient for clinical skills teaching.
Within a simulated learning environment, volunteers act as live physical models for small groups of first and second year students who are learning physical examination skills.
Guided by a qualified medical practitioner, students may listen to your heart and lungs, examine your abdomen, shoulder or knee.
You don’t need any particular skills to be a volunteer other than a willingness to be examined. You do need to be generally healthy and mobile, however having a managed health problem does not generally exclude you from volunteering.
Before participating, volunteers attend orientation activities and sign a consent form. The volunteer commitment is very flexible with teaching sessions and opportunities to participate running across the year.
Opportunities to participate as a volunteer in Clinical Skills teaching are available at our Canberra Clinical School campus.
